A number of older dogs and cats are desperately in need of forever homes, as the Adopt a Pet Animal Shelter in Philippi is closing.

Adopt A Pet is a no kill, privately-run non-profit organisation that rescues destitute dogs and cats.

The shelter’s founder and funder, Cicely Blumber, sadly died on May 9, 2020. While the team have managed to get by thus far, they are under difficult financial circumstances and have had to rehome over 200 animals since the year began.

The shelter and organisation will officially close in the next few months, and the team are desperately appealing to the public to adopt their 61 dogs and 18 cats – and give them forever homes.

They have waved adoption fees for any dogs or cats older than a year and who have been at the shelter for over six months, which is almost all the animals in their care.

However, the same adoption process, including screening and home inspections will apply. The shelter is asking for a donation at your own discretion, in place of their usual adoption fee which is R950. This R950 adoption fee still applies for animals that are less than a year old or have been at the shelter less than six months.

If you are able to take in an animal in need of a home, please contact Contact Karin on on 082 884 1333.
