The township of Khayelitsha in Cape Town has been rocked with yet another mass shooting incident on Sunday, 20 March.
The latest shooting incident comes exactly a week after five people were gunned down in Khayelitsha’s Endlovini informal settlement on Monday.
According to police spokesperson Brigadier Novella Potelwa, three unknown gunmen shot and killed six people in the Enkanini informal settlement.
“After being alerted to the shooting incident, police arrived and found the bodies of the five victims strewn across two scenes that are 200 metres apart.
“A sixth person died on arrival at a medical facility. The yet to be identified victims, comprising of two women and four men,” Potelwa said.
Potelwa went on to say that police have now opened several murder cases that are investigated by organised crime detectives.
Meanwhile, the Acting Minister of Community Safety, Anroux Marais has also welcomed Police Minister Bheki Cele’s commitment to increase SAPS support in the area to bring calm, increase safety and ensure the suspects are brought to book and fully investigated for these heinous crimes.
“I call on anyone with information regarding these shootings which could assist SAPS in their investigation to immediately come forward and report.
“We must all play our part and assist those who are denied the freedoms enshrined in our Bill of Rights in making our communities safer for you and those around you,” Marais indicated.
