A targeted police operation in Rusthof, Strand led to the confiscation of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and suspected drugs, with one man arrested following a weekend search conducted by specialised officers.
The operation, which was carried out on Saturday, 21 March, forms part of ongoing efforts aimed at limiting the circulation of illegal weapons and narcotics in communities across the Western Cape.
The operation culminated in the seizure of a pistol and multiple packets of tik, reinforcing law enforcement’s continued focus on disrupting criminal supply chains at a local level.
Information released by the South African Police Service highlights that members attached to the Anti-Gang Unit executed a search warrant at a residential property in Rusthof after gathering intelligence linked to suspected illegal activities.
Police conducted a detailed search of the premises, uncovering a Stoeger Cougar 800F pistol loaded with eight rounds of 9mm ammunition. In addition, officers also confiscated 21 packets of tik discovered during the operation.
Authorities confirmed that an adult male found on the property was arrested at the scene.
The suspect now faces charges relating to the possession of an unlicensed firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and possession of drugs.
Following the arrest, police confirmed that the accused is expected to appear before the Strand Magistrate’s Court tomorrow on Monday, 23 March.
