The parents of a child, who died after being crushed by a moving truck she was hanging onto, are appealing to the public for donations to help pay for her funeral.

Vanita Louw (12) from Tafelsig tragically died and her friend Nikita Jacobs (13) was seriously injured in an accident on Wednesday, November 18. According to witnesses, the girls were hanging onto the back of a moving truck, and their presence was unknown to the driver.

The truck allegedly halted at a stop street around 4pm, causing the girls to fall off. While reversing, the truck accidentally crushed both girls.

Louw died on the scene but Jacobs survived after being rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

A week later, Louw’s body is still in a mortuary because her family are unable to afford a funeral. Her mother, Juanita Duikers is now asking the public to help give her child the send-off she deserves.

“We are not in a financial position to pay for Vanita’s mortuary or funeral costs. We just want to give her a dignified burial,” said Duikers, according to IOL.

The Mustadafin Foundation, a non-profit organisation established working in the most destitute areas of the Western Cape, is helping to arrange the funeral as Louw was one of their Isibindi learners. The current fee for the mortuary and funeral cost is R7000, of which they have raised R2000 so far. The longer her body remains at the mortuary, the higher the fees will become.

This is a heart sore plea. Parents are unable to lay their child to rest because of financial. Please let us reach out and help this family.
