Two suspects have been arrested in connection with an incident that occurred yesterday in Athlone.
The disturbance involved two armed men, who, after engaging in an altercation, fled the scene in a Toyota Quantum, reports Cape {town} Etc.

SAPS had been notified of the altercation via a civilian complaint which had been lodged and members quickly closed off all potential escape routes in the area.
The vehicle was then spotted driving hastily towards the main road.
A high-speed chase between the two men and SAPS then ensued and police members eventually managed to halt the vehicle on Jan Smuts Drive.

One of the suspects tried to flee the scene once again but was prevented and the suspect was then searched.
Upon conducting the search, police officers confiscated a 9mm pistol that did not have a serial number but did hold ammunition.
The 41-year-old suspect was accordingly detained for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested on a charge of reckless and negligent driving.
Both suspects are due to appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court in connection with the charges detailed above.
