A disturbing video of a male customer assaulting a female worker at McDonald’s in Kenilworth has gone viral, igniting widespread anger online.
By Tuesday morning, the clip had amassed over 328 000 views and 1 300 reactions, with viewers expressing shock and frustration.
In the footage posted by Facebook user Rybrox, a white male is seen behind the counter, an area typically reserved for employees, where he confronts the black female worker.
She instructs him to wait for his food, but he responds by aggressively pushing her with two fingers.
The worker, holding a chip fryer, defends herself, shouting at the man to stop.
‘Don’t dare push me,’ she demands, while also questioning, ‘Who do you think you are, to hit a woman?’
As the male continues his assault, the worker pushes him away, but he eventually disappears from view.
He can still be heard calling her a ‘piece of s***.’
Shocked male patrons capture the incident on camera. Moments later, a group of men rushes in to confront the attacker, prompting the footage to end.
Cape {town} Etc has reached out to the police for comment and plans to release further details on the situation should new information come to light.
Social media responses have been mixed, with some suggesting the worker should have used the hot oil to defend herself, while others warned of potential legal repercussions.
‘I would have grabbed hot oil if I was working,’ one commenter said, ‘then as he pushed me, he would get it in his face and chest.’
Others expressed frustration at the initial inaction of the male customers, but applauded those who eventually stepped in.
One user pointed out, ‘Men watching another man assault a woman.’
