A group of fraudsters were apprehended during an attempt to make away with almost R13 000 cash and goods stolen in an ATM scam in Pelican Park.

On Friday, January 24, Law Enforcement Auxiliary officers were alerted to a vehicle involved in an ATM scam in the Pelican Park and the southern suburbs areas.

Local neighbourhood watch members in the Mowbray area reported seeing the vehicle near Red Cross hospital, and were instrumental in the apprehension of the criminals.

“The vehicle was spotted in the Mowbray area, near Red Cross hospital and local Neighbourhood watch members were monitoring the vehicles movement,” says a representative from the City of Cape Town.

Metro police pulled the vehicle over on Klipfontein road, and a search of the vehicle uncovered R12 960 in cash, multiple cell phones, caps and city of Cape Town clothing.

Three suspects were detained at Grassy Park SAPS for theft, fraud and armed robbery respectively. One of the suspects was wanted on a Strand case from late 2019 and another was wanted on a 2018 Parow Case for Armed robbery.
