The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced a significant safety recall affecting 40 Audi e-tron GT vehicles sold in South Africa, Cape {town} Etc reports.
This recall, prompted by concerns regarding the integrity of the braking system, targets specific units that were sold between 2 November 2021 and 20 March 2026.
Audi South Africa, part of the Volkswagen Group Africa (Pty) Ltd, has taken proactive measures to ensure the safety of their drivers amid this alarming revelation.
According to an official report from Audi SA, the issue stems from a bolted connection between the input rod on the brake pedal and the operating rod on the brake servo, which may potentially come loose over time.
The risk is grave; should this connection become entirely detached, drivers would only be able to rely on the controlled emergency braking function, considerably diminishing the vehicle’s overall braking effectiveness.
Phetho Ntaba, spokesperson for the NCC, urged owners of the affected Audi e-tron GT vehicles to take immediate action.
‘It is crucial that owners of these vehicles arrange for the necessary inspection and repair at their nearest authorised Audi SA dealerships without delay. We want to emphasise that all corrective work resulting from this recall will be carried out at no cost to the consumer,’ Ntaba reassured.
In light of these developments, Audi SA has initiated communication efforts to ensure that all impacted vehicle owners are made aware of the necessary steps they need to follow.
The company said it is committed to maintaining high safety standards, demonstrating a dedication to consumer safety and vehicle reliability.
