A 27-year-old Austrian paraglider was injured on Monday after he crashed on Lion’s Head and was airlifted to hospital for further treatment, Cape {town} Etc.
A passing hiker and a local mountain guide saw the fall and moved quickly to prevent the pilot from tumbling down the steep slope.
They alerted emergency services using the Western Cape emergency number 021 937 0300 while keeping the pilot as steady and comfortable as possible. Facebook
A small technical rescue team from the Western Cape Government Health and Wellness EMS and the Air Mercy Service helicopter deployed to the scene.

An EMS paramedic assessed and treated the patient on site before he was airlifted to a nearby landing zone and transferred to an ambulance for hospital transport. The incident concluded at 10:50.
‘We thank the quick-thinking hiker and guide whose prompt actions helped stabilise the situation until rescue teams arrived,’ Wilderness Search And Rescue said in a statement.
The group also asked the public to save and share the correct emergency contact number.

Authorities have not released the pilot’s name or condition. Emergency teams thanked eyewitnesses and urged visitors to follow safety advice when taking part in aerial sports and mountain activities.
