Appointed through a Request for Quotation process, NCC will deploy rangers from 1 December to 31 December, 2024, to help manage baboon troops, ensuring they remain in their natural habitats as much as possible and preventing their intrusion into urban areas.
However, due to budget limitations, fewer rangers will be available for monitoring the baboon troops compared to previous years. Residents and businesses in affected areas are encouraged to maintain responsible waste management practices and remain vigilant.
The CPBMJTT has also revealed that additional steps are being taken to transition to a more sustainable urban baboon management programme.
These steps include:
- Appointing a contractor for a month-to-month interim solution over a 12-month period.
- Forming a partnership with a non-profit organisation (NPO) that will be supported by grants, donations and sponsorships from CPBMJTT partners, local communities, businesses, and the public. This NPO will help implement the Baboon Strategic Management Plan.
The CPBMJTT expressed gratitude to the affected communities for their continued support and assured the public that updates on the progress of these initiatives would be shared.
