KwaNonqaba Police have opened an inquest docket after the body of a baby boy was found abandoned in bushes yesterday. Constables Nani and Mkanzi responded to a call from a resident who noticed a dog toying with something in the bushes.

“Upon investigation, the resident, who walked among bushes in the Mzola Street area realised that it was the body of a baby boy that may have been born sometime this past weekend,” Mossel Bay SAPS said in a statement.

Sector Commanders responded to the call, and found that the baby’s umbilical cord had been neatly severed.

The investigating officers, Sgt Dominique Deuster and WO Geoffery Moos (044 606 5600) request the community to assist with any information on the incident.
