The pharmaceutical company, Bayer, has recalled their Yaz Plus birth control pills, after it had been discovered that some of the pills were defective and could not prevent pregnancy, Cape {town} Etc reports.

The company issued a Class ll Type A recall, which is intended for medicines that could possibly cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health problems or mistreatment and is designed to reach all suppliers of medicines / all distribution points.
The recall pertained to the Yaz Plus birth control pills.
The problem arose once it had been discovered that in limited number of packs, there was a mix-up of the sequence of hormone-containing and hormone free-tablets.
The packs were supposed to contain 24 pink film-coated hormone tablets and 4 light orange hormone-free tablets. Certain packs however contained 24 light orange hormone-free tablets and only 4 pink film-coated hormone tablets.
Thereby, the problematic packs will be unable to serve as effective contraceptives and consumers have been encouraged to return packs of batch WEW96J to the supplier.
Consumers may return packs from this batch to DSV Healthcare or the wholesaler from which they purchased the product.
