A fire, which broke out at the Amenhof Building in Voortrekker Road, Bellville, has claimed the life of an 8-year-old boy. Several others were also injured during the incident.
The fire broke out on the third and fourth floor of the building, two women jumped from the third floor window to escape the inferno. One of the women jumped while carrying a baby, and has sustained spinal injuries, while the other has 60% burns across her body, as well as other injuries.
Another adult male injured his legs as he ran down the stairs in the building.
The City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Services attended to the fire with two fire engines, one hydraulic platform and 24 firefighters.
There is no further information regarding the cause of the fire.
