Tennis fans are being warned by The Roger Federer Foundation that untrustworthy platforms are reselling tickets for the big game in 2020.

Tickets for the highly-anticipated Federer vs Nadal match sold out within 10 minutes. Many have been desperately looking for a way to get their hands on more tickets.

Fans looking for tickets should not purchase them from untrustworthy platforms, says The Roger Federer Foundation. Untrustworthy platforms are selling either fake tickets or tickets at excessive prices.

Sites such as Viagogo have been mentioned as selling tickets for exuberant prices.

“We are aware that there are tickets on sale from unaffiliated online vendors. Reselling tickets on the grey and black market is illegal and risky for the buyer, as there is no guarantee that the tickets are legitimate,” says Dr Janine Händel, CEO of the Roger Federer Foundation.

Händel says locals should be weary when buying such tickets as general tickets for the event were deliberately sold at R150 so that they were accessible to all tennis fans.

Rumour has it that more tickets could go on sale. The foundation hinted at a possible second round of ticket sales as they consider adding more seating areas to accommodate the demand and achieve a world record with tickets sales.

Locals are reminded to only purchase tickets from the official sellers of the event.
