Capetonians wanting to celebrate Reconciliation Day by relaxing on the beach might be visited by Police Minister Bheki Cele.

“Minister of Police, General Bheki Cele accompanied by SAPS management will on Wednesday embark on a day-long visit to various beaches in Cape Town to inspect operational deployments as well as assess adherence to lockdown regulations,” SAPS tweeted.

Government has closed several beaches across the country in hotspot areas on certain public holidays to curb the spread of COVID-19. These include the Garden Route area and Nelson Mandela Bay municipality.

No Cape Town beaches are closed, but strict social distancing measures will be enforced. Other regulations that need to be adhered to include the wearing of masks and frequent sanitising. Alcohol is not allowed on beaches.

Cele is expected at the following beaches for inspection, according to The South African:

10:45 – Muizenberg

13:00 – Camps Bay

13:30 – Clifton

14:15 – Big Bay
