The National Police Minister, General Bheki Cele will visit Cape Town on Monday, December 20 as part of the annual Safer Festive Season Inspection Tour.
According to reports, the visit forms part of efforts by the South African Police Service, to channel resources to areas where they are most needed, to ensure police deal decisively with crime during the holiday season.
Under the theme, “Extending our reach through blue light visibility” Minister Cele together with the SAPS management team from national and the province led by the Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile, will assess the effectiveness of Safer Festive Season operational plans put in place, to ensure that residents and holidaymakers are and feel safe, during the holiday season.

Meanwhile, a total of 210 Law Enforcement Advancement Plan (LEAP) law enforcement officers have completed their training, ahead of their official deployment. According to the Western Cae government, this will bring the total number of LEAP officers deployed to communities most affected by violent crime to approximately 1040.
The new LEAP officers will be deployed in Samora Marcel, Philippi East, Gugulethu and Atlantis. This is in addition to the LEAP officers currently deployed and stationed in Kraaifontein, Mitchells Plain, Delft, Harare, Philippi, Bishop Lavis, Nyanga, Mfuleni and Khayelitsha.
