This project intends to improve recreational access, promote an active lifestyle, and create a focal point for the Bishop Lavis community.
The updated facility’s design concept focuses on boosting utility and appealing to a wide range of users.
Completed improvements include an updated cricket field, a re-grassed athletic track, new multipurpose hard courts for tennis and netball, and new spectator fencing.
These upgrades are complemented by necessary infrastructure improvements, such as stormwater catchpits.
In addition to the aforementioned, the central green core, formed by combining soccer and cricket grounds, improves the facility’s accessibility and versatility.
‘The Bishop Lavis Sports Ground is a beautiful facility and we are glad to see the improvements made thus far,’ said the Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Patricia van der Ross. ‘This community-focused investment underscores our commitment to providing safe, accessible and quality recreational facilities. The state-of-the-art upgrades create an inviting environment for families and athletes and will promote community well-being and pride.’
This year’s modifications will include improvements to the entrance, access road and parking areas, as well as the construction of an 11-a-side synthetic football pitch and family park.
These complexes will cater to a wide spectrum of people and include family-friendly features.
The Bishop Lavis Urban Node Upgrade Public Investment Framework (PIF) also includes proposals for a pedestrian link from Lavistown rail station to Bishop Lavis Town Centre.
‘These improvements will significantly enhance safety, accessibility, and functionality, making the facility a welcoming space for local residents to get together and participate in sport and enjoy the outdoors,’ said Ward Councillor Charles Esau.
