On Wednesday, April 15, the COVID-19 Bo-Kaap Community Response team informed the close-knit community that a fourth case of the virus was confirmed in the area.

“I hereby inform you that my 16-year-old daughter tested positive for COVID-19 during the mass screening and testing which took place in the Bo-Kaap this past week,” a parent of the patient said to the team under the condition of anonymity. “She is currently in isolation at a remote healthcare facility and is being monitored by hospital officials. Since she is a minor, her mother has accompanied her and is also providing the necessary support and assistance.”

The family lives on Chiappini Street, and are requesting that the rest of their neighbourhood understand the seriousness of the COVID-19 virus.

“Legally, I cannot disclose the name or further information regarding my daughter,” the parent continued. “I humbly request that members of the community respect our privacy during this emotional time. Any communications to the Bo-Kaap community will be sent via the COVID-19 Bo-Kaap Community Response Team.”

Any members of the community who want further information are urged to contact Musturah Adams on 083 286 2480, or Shafwaan Laubscher on 084 836 8105.
