Update:
The body of a man was discovered at Clifton Beach in Cape Town on Thursday afternoon.
According to Western Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg, the partially decomposed body was found between 3rd and 4th Beach.
‘Camps Bay police have opened an inquest to investigate the incident,’ Twigg stated.
SAPS divers were dispatched to retrieve the body from the rocks. A post-mortem examination will be carried out to determine the cause of death, Twigg added.
Ward Councillor Nicola Jowell commented, ‘The deceased is an adult male who appears to have been in the water for some time. The exact location and circumstances of where he entered the water remain unknown.’
Jowell noted that with the rough and high seas, it could have been anywhere along the coastline.
‘I hope SAPS can identify him so that his family can find some closure.’
