Cape Town police confirmed that the body of 17-year-old Roezayg Butler, who was recently reported missing, was found with multiple gunshot wounds, reports Cape {town} Etc.

According to police spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk, Butler’s body was found along the highway with gunshot wounds to the head.
‘According to reports, the deceased was found on 4 October, at about 12:40am. at the N1 off-ramp, direction N7 Goodwood with gunshot wounds to the head,’ said van Wyk.
‘He was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The motive for the attack forms part of the police investigation.’
The 17-year-old from Bonteheuwel was reported missing just a day earlier, on 3 October.
Talking to IOL, a family member said Butler was last seen leaving his grandmother’s house after informing the family that he would be sleeping over at a friend’s.
After receiving no communication from him on Friday, the family began to worry.
‘We looked at friends and relatives, never did we think of looking at police stations or morgues, because there was so much hope he’d be found alive,’ the family member told the publication.
According to van Wyk, initial attempts to contact the teen’s family after his body was found were unsuccessful, reported News24. When SAPS managed to get hold of them a few days later, they were informed that Butler’s body was at the morgue.
‘When we got the news it really broke everyone, his mother and grandmother especially, but as much as it hurts, we have the peace of mind that he is safe with our Creator,’ the family member said. He also thanked everyone who assisted in looking for the teenager.
The incident is one of a spate of shootings that have been ravaging the Cape Flats recently.
‘Gun violence is a serious issue on the Cape Flats, and until it gets under control, we will continue to see innocent people dying,’ News24 quoted Cape Flats Safety Forum spokesperson Lynn Phillips as saying.
‘These acts of violence show that these gunslingers have no respect for life, and we seriously ask the SAPS provincial office to allocate specialised units [to] retrieve all these guns and [ammunition] in our community as our community is constantly under attack.’
