The body of the man was taken into the care of Government Health Forensic Pathology Services, with formal identification still in progress, according to a press statement issued by the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI).
It is believed that the body of the man that was located and recovered by police is that of a 42-year-old male from Belhar who went missing in the surf zone at Milnerton Beach on Sunday, 24 November.
The NSRI, law enforcement, Milnerton Surf lifeguards, City of Cape Town lifeguards, Western Cape Government (WCG) Health EMS Rescue Squad Drone Unit and local security assisted police in the ongoing search operation during the week.
Cape {town} Etc previously reported that the NSRI responded to an emergency at Milnerton Beach on Sunday, 24 November, when two swimmers were caught in rip currents around 6:32pm.
One of the swimmers (23) was rescued by a bystander and taken to the hospital for treatment of non-fatal drowning symptoms.
