Following an extensive search, a body believed to be Ken Stephen (36) has been spotted near Platteklip Gorge. Stephens was declared missing on Monday [July 6] after not returning home from a run.

A helicopter spotted a body near the Africa Amphitheater on Wednesday [July 8]. The search to locate Stephen has now been called off.

“The body of a person wearing clothing matching that of the missing person has been spotted from a private helicopter below Africa Face on Table Mountain. The rescue helicopter assisting WSAR is about to insert a paramedic. We are waiting for the outcome of that,” said Wilderness Search and Rescue.

A team is being assembled and will be sent up the mountain to retrieve the body in the next few hours.

The team managed to recovery the body of a man who appeared to have fallen from a very high position.

“His car keys, his wallet and the clothes he was wearing when he was last seen enabled the family to confirm his identity,” said WSAR’s Johann Marais.

His car was found parked at the bottom of Platteklip Gorge. His cellphone is off and its signal was last picked up near Nettleton Road, according to Trailswp.

This is a developing story and Cape Town ETC will update on further information.
