Camps Bay police have confirmed that the body discovered on the rocks at Bakoven Beach on Friday morning is that of 18-year-old Nafees Isaacs from Delft, who went missing almost a week ago.
It comes after Isaacs had reportedly slipped and fallen into the ocean in the early hours of Saturday, 27 September, while visiting the beach with a group of friends. Despite extensive efforts, recovery attempts in the days that followed were unsuccessful.
According to NovaNews and police station commander Captain Liaan Janse van Rensburg, who said that officers were alerted to a call about a body on the rocks at around 7:30am.
‘On arrival police found the body of a young, coloured boy on the rocks. Through further investigation, it can be confirmed that the body is that of the missing person, who went missing on Saturday 27 September between 03:00 and 04:00,’ he stated.
Van Rensburg explained that the body was discovered roughly 100 metres from where the teen was last seen.
‘The found body is still dressed in the same clothing as the missing person’s report. The body will be sent to the forensic mortuary for further investigation,’ he added.
The teenager’s father, Suleiman Isaacs, described his son as a ‘respectful boy’ and shared his heartbreak.
‘I don’t think this heartache will ever go away, but I will feel a bit better once he has been laid to rest,’ he said. Suleiman also acknowledged that, like many teenagers, his son had his flaws, but emphasised, ‘He was never rude to anyone. Whenever someone reprimanded him, he would just walk away.’
Isaacs will be laid to rest tomorrow in accordance with Muslim rites.
