The body of newborn baby that was discovered in a dustbin at a tshisa nyama in Gugulethu on Friday, 4 October, has prompted an investigation by the South African Police Service (SAPS), Cape {town} Etc reports.

Provincial police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said that Gugulethu officers registered a ‘concealment of birth’ following the discovery of a newborn baby inside a plastic bag in a dust bin.
The discovery was reported by a member of the public at about 9:55am at the NY 64 Khikhi Hostel.
‘A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death,’ said Van Wyk.
The discovery of the infant’s corpse has raised concerns in the community, with a resident of the area urging the SAPS to ‘leave no stone unturned’ in bringing the culprit to justice, as reported by City Vision via News24.
The resident, who calls herself Nosi for safety and privacy reasons, said that the incident occurred at Etshatshalazeni.
‘We suspect that the newborn was dumped in the wheelie bin. But, I don’t know how it fell outside because the baby was in a plastic bag on the street. It looked like a full-fledged baby,’ said Nosi.
‘It doesn’t sit well with me. This is wrong. Imagine killing a small baby. Why didn’t she go for abortion if she doesn’t like her or take the baby to an orphanage home?’ Nosi added.
Nosi further claimed that there is a possibility the culprit is not ‘from the vicinity’, but that the child was dumped there because it is a busy area.
