An unidentified surfer helped an injured bodyboarder at the Kalk Bay reef on Tuesday. The dramatic rescue took place after the bodyboarder found himself in a perilous situation that resulted in him nearly drowning.

A City of Cape Town Law Enforcement officer was observing the rough waters at the Kalk Bay reef when he spotted what he first thought was a poacher. “When he drifted in amongst the kelp the officer realised he was a bodyboarder who was in trouble. The officer with no time to waste and in full uniform entered the water joined by a surfer,” said Wayne Dyason, Law Enforcement spokesperson.

The Law Enforcement officer joined the surfer in rescuing the bodyboarder, who was being pounded against the rocks by the rough waves.

The bodyboarder was rushed to Fish Hoek Hopsital after being bashed against the rocks caused him serious injury.

It is suspected that that he may also suffer from spinal injuries as a result of the ordeal.
