The Bonteheuwel mother who was arrested in July for allegedly selling naked pictures of her four-year-old daughter on the dark web made a brief appearance in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, August 19.
The 32-year-old mother was arrested after agents attached to the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), together with Homeland Security, reacted to information that a woman was allegedly selling the photographs and receiving payments via PayPal.
However, the case was postponed to September 15, as the investigation, continues, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) regional spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila indicated to News 24.
Meanwhile, Bonteheuwel ward councillor Angus Mckenzie mentioned to Cape {town} Etc that he applauds the swift response from the FBI as cases like this should not go unpunished.
” It is for this very reason that I along with a number of residents attended the court hearing, we will continue to be at court for every appearance,” Mckenzie said.
He added that 2 years ago, President Cyril Ramaphosa promised action against GBV crimes and no bail for those accused and has sadly failed in that attempt to do so.
” I will continue to place pressure on the police, the courts and communities across the City to fight GBV and ensure effective justice for victims of GBV,” Mckenzie reiterated.
