A seven-year-old boy has been airlifted to hospital following a three-car crash in Durbanville on Monday morning [February 24]. A woman was also killed in the accident.

ER24 paramedics, along with Western Cape Fire Services and Metro Rescue, arrived on scene at 7.20am to find the crash had taken place in the middle of Vissershok Road. When authorities went to inspect the scene, medics found the woman and the seven-year-old trapped in the car in critical condition.

According to ER24, rescue services made use of specialised equipment to free the two trapped victims. The woman died during the rescue process due to fatal injuries.

Once freed, the young boy was immediately treated and provided with life support interventions before he was airlifted to the Red Cross Children’s Hospital via helicopter.

According to Western Cape Traffic Chief Kenny Africa, two other people were involved in the crash as well, and escaped uninjured. The details surrounding the crash are still hazy. Authorities were on scene for further investigations.
