A Brackenfell family is celebrating a lifesaving act of bravery after their four-month-old son suffered a frightening medical emergency on Friday night.
Little Daniel suddenly began choking after receiving fever medication, sending his parents into a panic as they raced toward the nearest hospital, as reported by Radio 786 on Facebook.
Realising they might not make it in time, they pulled into the Brackenfell Fire Station, hoping someone could help.
Firefighter Arlin Thielman immediately stepped forward, taking control of the crisis with calm precision.
He worked swiftly to stabilise the infant before arranging urgent medical transport to CapeGate Mediclinic.
Daniel’s mother, Miriam Pharoe, said Thielman’s steady presence and fast response ‘turned the situation around’, offering relief in a moment of pure fear.
By the time the family reached the hospital, Daniel had recovered enough to be declared safely out of danger.
This week, the grateful parents met with Thielman to personally thank him for stepping in when every second mattered, a reunion filled with relief, gratitude, and admiration for the firefighter who made all the difference.
