‘Exercise WILL FOR PEACE 2026 is Maritime exercise designed to enhance interoperability, operational readiness, and maritime security,’ the SANDF noted.

Maj Gen Godfrey Thulare received a briefing and led walkabouts at Simon’s Town Naval Base as crews checked vessels and systems.

Organisers say the week will include interoperability drills, maritime protection serials and safety operations that train teams to protect shipping routes and support coastal communities.

Local sailors and support staff described focused but calm preparations. Information provided by Ms Thando Ramasimong and photos by Ms Boitumelo Choene show personnel coordinating logistics on the base.
Observers on shore will watch for how command and coordination play out across partner ships.
Officials say the exercise will test communication, search-and-rescue drills and escort procedures that help secure vital trade lanes.
