Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has unveiled his 23-man squad ahead of the upcoming international friendlies against Panama, with a few notable selection twists, Cape {town} Etc reports.
Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine misses out on the squad, while Mamelodi Sundowns veteran Themba Zwane makes a welcome return to the national setup.
South Africa is set to face Panama twice, first in a FIFA World Cup preparation match at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday, 27 March, before a second encounter at Cape Town’s DHL Stadium on Tuesday, 31 March.
There are also inclusions from abroad, with Germany-based defender Ime Okon, who features for Hannover 96 in Bundesliga 2, earning a call-up, while Mbekezeli Mbokazi will link up with the team from MLS side Chicago Fire.
Midfield options have been bolstered by the return of Sundowns’ Jayden Adams, while Sekhukhune United shot-stopper Renaldo Leaner is among the goalkeepers selected.
Ronwen Williams and Ricardo Goss complete the goalkeeping department, while the defensive unit features names such as Samukelo Kabini, Thabang Matuludi, Aubrey Modiba, Khuliso Mudau, Khulumani Ndamane and Nkosinathi Sibisi.
In midfield, Thalenthe Mbatha, Teboho Mokoena, Jayden Adams and Sphephelo Sithole are included, offering a mix of local and international experience.
Up front, the squad includes Oswin Appollis, Evidence Makgopa, Tshepang Moremi and Relebohile Mofokeng, alongside overseas-based attackers Lyle Foster, Bongokuhle Hlongwane and Thapelo Maseko, with Zwane adding experience to the attacking options.
