Burgundy Restaurant Hermanus, a well-known seafront spot near the old harbour, has told patrons that dogs are no longer allowed after sharing the update on social media, Cape {town} Etc reports.
The restaurant wrote: ‘We regret to inform our loyal patrons that dogs are not allowed at Burgundy restaurant anymore.’
Burgundy is one of Hermanus’ best-known dining landmarks. According to the restaurant’s history page, the original site began as two fishermen’s cottages built in 1875, became the Cypress Tea Garden in 1928 and was converted into The Burgundy Restaurant in 1987. The restaurant also says it is the oldest building in Hermanus.

For regulars and dog owners, the update may feel like a small ritual coming to an end, no more wagging tails under the table or water bowls by the chair at a spot many have come to associate with easy seaside meals and familiar faces.
