A gruesome discovery was made by the Fire and Rescue Service when they responded to a call regarding a fire inside an unused building at the Cape Town Station Deck on Tuesday afternoon. Upon the team’s arrival, they found a woman’s body on fire.

The victim was reportedly stripped of clothing and lying face down. The body was discovered in a small unused room inside a building belonging to the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) near the Cape Town Station Deck.

Metrorail spokesperson Riana Scott confirmed the incident and said an inquest docket was opened by SAPS, however no more information was available at the time of publish.

“Preliminary reports received from SAPS indicate that an inquest docket was opened by SAPS Central to investigate the case of the burnt body of an unidentified female. The discovery was made by Fire & Rescue Services after they were called to extinguish a fire in an unused building on the Station Deck. Other than the preceding we have no further information on the incident,” she said.

Investigations are still underway and the circumstances surrounding the death are not yet known.
