On Friday, March 5, a Golden Arrow bus driver, age 48, was shot through the mouth while dropping off passengers at Jaftha and Masemola Street, Khayelitsha.

According to IOL, police spokesperson, FC van Wyk, said that police are investigating cases of attempted murder and armed robbery.

Van Wyk added that three suspects approached the bus and fired a shot through the windscreen, hitting the driver through the mouth.

The other two suspects then got aboard the bus and took the driver’s cell phone, an unknown amount of money, and robbed passengers.

“The victim drove the bus from the scene to the police station (after being shot). He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment; because of his wound he was not able to speak,” said Van Wyk.

SAPS spokesperson, Bronwen Dyke-Beyer, said that due to Covid-19 protocols, they were not allowed to visit the driver but have been calling the hospital to check on him. He is apparently doing well.

Anyone with information that could assist in the investigation is urged to contact Crime Stop on 086 001 0111 or via the MySAPS App.
