Mogotsi’s name has frequently surfaced in high-profile inquiries into alleged corruption and interference within the police service.
Media reports and testimony have linked him to claims of influence peddling and close connections with figures within the security cluster – issues that came under scrutiny during the Madlanga Commission.
Last month, police raided business premises associated with Mogotsi in the North West as part of broader investigations, Daily Maverick reported.
The shooting adds a new dimension to these ongoing probes. Journalists and opposition leaders have long raised concerns about Mogotsi’s proximity to senior officials and the possible implications for policing integrity.
Police have appealed to the public for witnesses and any dashcam or cellphone footage that could assist the investigation.
