The Cableway Charity Challenge, a prominent fundraising event in Cape Town, has been postponed to Sunday, May 11, 2025, due to severe weather conditions forecasted for the original date, Saturday, May 10. The South African Weather Service issued a Yellow Level 4 warning, predicting damaging winds and waves as a powerful cold front approaches the Western Cape. In response, organisers rescheduled the event to ensure participant safety.

Established in 2009 by Anton and Brigitte de Waal, the Cableway Charity Challenge invites participants to ascend Platteklip Gorge on Table Mountain as many times as possible between sunrise and sunset. The event raises funds for local charities supporting vulnerable women and children in Cape Town. Over the years, it has become a significant fixture in the city’s trail running calendar, attracting individuals, corporate teams, and school groups.

In 2025, the event aims to raise R1 million for beneficiaries including Ubuntu Football, Funda Kunye, Volunteer Wildfire Services, and Wilderness Search and Rescue. Participants benefit from free cable car descents after each climb, providing respite during the physically demanding challenge.
