According to Deon Smit, founder of the South African Water Warriors, individuals can make donations to help reach the organisation’s goal via the BackaBuddy campaign page.
While the organisation’s focus has primarily been farmers and their employers, they have also assisted other towns with water, supplying water to Wuppertal, Betty’s Bay and other areas where major fires have occurred.
‘When we have an outreach to go and assist farmers in a certain area we also, [where] possible, [assist] old age homes and schools/hostels with groceries,’ said Smit.
‘These [institutions] have after all been dependent on donations from farmers which they no longer get. We have an outreach to a community every two months where we assist anywhere from 200 – 300 families,’ Smit added.
