A male cyclist in his seventies suffered a heart attack while cycling along Victoria Road in Camps Bay this morning, marking a somber start to the day for the local community, reports Cape {town} Etc.
Witnesses reported that the cyclist, aged 72, collapsed in front of the tidal pool, prompting immediate action from nearby bystanders who quickly contacted emergency services.
Despite the rapid arrival of medical professionals, who administered CPR at the scene, the man could not be revived and was declared dead shortly thereafter.
Police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala has confirmed the details of the incident, stating, ‘Camps Bay police are aware of an incident that occurred at Victoria Road this morning. No foul play is suspected, therefore no criminal case has been registered.’
The authorities have verified the details surrounding the event, asserting that this was a medical emergency rather than a result of external factors.
Ward 54 councillor Nicola Jowell expressed her condolences, saying, ‘Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends during this very difficult time.’
Notably, this marks the second cyclist fatality on Victoria Road in a matter of weeks. Just days earlier, cyclist Idries Sheriff lost his life after being struck by a vehicle allegedly operated at high speed and under the influence of alcohol.
