A 63-year-old Cape Flats grandfather made an appearance in Wynberg Magistrate’s Court after he allegedly raped his biological 14-year-old granddaughter.
The incident occurred in April this year when a relative heard noises coming from the room that was shared by the young girl and her grandfather.
According to IOL, the spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Eric Ntabazalila confirmed that the accused has not pleaded yet in the court of law.
The case against the grandfather has been postponed until a legal representative can join him in the case, reports The Bharat Express News.
It is suspected that the grandfather impregnated the girl and at the time of his arrest, the commander of Manenberg SAPS station, Brigadier Sanele Zama said officers were all shocked by the incident.
The commander also said charges of arrest and rape against the grandfather was in place and that acts of sexual violence against children was condemned in the strongest terms.
However, on Thursday, October 21, the case against the grandfather was postponed to November 4, 2021.
