Bathandwa Zuzo has successfully recovered from COVID-19 after spending three long weeks in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Gatesville Melomed Hospital.

Speaking to Radio 786, the hospital’s spokesperson said that Zuzo has had a really good outcome and his wife will be seeing him for the first time in weeks.

Zuzo is the father of five children, and is employed as a driver in the City of Cape Town’s sanitation department.

Minister of Health Zweli Mkhize announced that the Western Cape accounts for 60% of the latest spate of COVID-19 positive cases. The numbers increase as more field testing is conducted, and many experts predict that the virus will reach its peak in South Africa in the coming weeks.

Last night [May 17], Mkhize said the highest increase in cases was collated; a total of 1160 new coronavirus cases emerged from various provinces.
