South African Police Service (SAPS) Public Order Police officers discovered a large-scale drug operation going on in Cape Town on the evening of Tuesday, May 19. A tip-off led the officers to a residence in Delft.

Here, they found a large stash of drugs that included 190 000 mandrax tablets.

“Police found 190,102 mandrax tablets, 379.6g of tik and 105.6g of mandrax powder worth a substantial amount,” SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana said in a statement.

A 33-year-old suspect was arrested on the premises, and an undisclosed amount of cash was found and confiscated. The suspect now faces charges of drug possession.

“The members proceeded to another address in Delft, where they found ammunition and arrested a 20-year-old suspect,” said Rwexana. “Meanwhile in Bellville, members arrested a suspect in Teddington Road after he was found in possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.”

All suspects will appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court this week.
