This early surge in traveller numbers signifies a robust start to the peak travel season, underlining the resilience of South Africa’s vital tourism and aviation sectors.
Thabo Phateng, Acting Regional General Manager for Cape Town International Airport, expressed great satisfaction with this significant achievement. ‘The trust that travellers place in Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) and its airports is vital as we approach one of the busiest times of the year,’ he noted.
Phateng reiterated the commitment of operational teams to deliver not only efficient but also safe and welcoming services to the growing number of passengers.
This milestone illustrates the effectiveness of ongoing collaborative efforts with the Air Access Steering Committee and emphasises ACSA’s continuous investment in enhancing infrastructure, technology and service quality.

According to Phateng, ‘Strong collaboration among airport partners, airlines, ground handlers, and Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) has been crucial in ensuring smooth operations during this high-demand period.’
As the peak season gears up, ACSA intends to further enhance its focus on delivering an uncompromising traveller experience.
Phateng expressed gratitude for all partners and passengers for their cooperation while navigating the increased volume at the airport. ‘Even while operating at capacity during peak times, our teams are dedicated to providing a safe, efficient, and positive experience for all travellers,’ he emphasised.
With the festive season approaching, Cape Town International Airport remains vigilant and proactive. ‘We continue to work closely with airline partners, border authorities, and service providers to ensure the highest levels of safety, comfort, and hospitality throughout the season,’ said Phateng.
