Cape Town International Airport says it is moving back towards normal operations after a fire broke out in the International Inner Lane, also known as the Northern Service Yard, on Tuesday, 24 February, Cape {town} Etc reports.
The blaze was quickly brought under control and no injuries were reported, but safety procedures required power to be temporarily shut down across the terminal so that full assessments could be carried out.
Although electricity and most airport systems have since been restored, some services are still operating manually as recovery continues.
Most airline check-in systems are now functioning as usual, with the exception of Lift Airlines, which is still processing passengers by hand.
International arrivals are being handled manually by the Border Management Authority and Customs, which may result in longer queues, while international departures resumed on Tuesday evening and all aircraft that landed during the disruption have been cleared, despite a limited number of flights being diverted at the height of the incident.
Baggage handling remains a manual process for now, and travellers should be prepared for possible delays in receiving their luggage, while domestic flights are operating normally again.

Passengers have also been advised of changes inside the terminal, with the International Arrivals corridor still closed and meeters and greeters redirected to a temporary area on the ground floor at the International Inner Lane.
Travellers who were unable to collect their bags on Tuesday can retrieve them from the northern side of the temporary meeters and greeters entrance.
For baggage-related queries, passengers are encouraged to contact their airline’s ground handling agents directly, including Menzies Aviation on 021 935 3913 or Colossal Aviation Services on 021 935 3907.
To help reduce congestion at the airport, travellers are urged to check the ACSA app for live updates and confirm flight details with their airline before heading to the terminal.
