The Cape Town Carnival will be lighting up the streets with colour on Saturday, March 16 2019. As always, traffic restrictions will be in place and public transport services operating in and along the closed or restricted roads may have some route deviations.

Normal scheduled bus services will be affected by road closures in the Green Point area as well as in the CBD from 2pm on the day.

Parking restrictions will be enforced in residential areas adjacent to the Fan Walk from midnight on Friday, March 15 to 1am on Sunday, March 17.

Vehicle access permit holders can gain access to controlled-access vehicle corridors in Somerset Road, between Upper Portswood and Vesperdene Roads; between Exhibition Terrace and Ashstead Road; between Highfield (including the Son Vida vehicle entrance gate); and Boundary Roads.

Dedicated disability parking has been allocated at Gallows Hill. Only people with an official disability permit from the City will be allowed to park in this parking area.

The following roads will be affected during the event: 

Somerset Road:

– Granger Bay Boulevard to Ebenezer Road – city inbound carriageway closure – 12pm-1pm

– Granger Bay Blvd to Buitengracht Street – full closure in both directions – 1pm-1am

– Exhibition Terrace and York Road – Sea Point bound carriageway, left lane only – limited residence access – 1pm-1am

– Highfield Road and Vesperdene Road – Sea Point bound carriageway, left lane only – limited residence access – 1pm-1am

Main Road:

– Granger Bay Blvd to Three Anchor Bay Blvd – resident access only – 1pm-1am

Fritz Sonnenberg:

– Vlei Road to Granger Bay Blvd – full closure in both directions – 1pm-1am

– Granger Bay Blvd to A Track – full closure in both directions – 1pm-1am

Ebenezer Road:

– Victoria Junction Hotel Parking Entrance to Somerset Road – full closure in both directions – 1pm-1am

– Port Road to Prestwich Street – permit holders only – 1pm-1am

Bennett Street:

– Port Road to Prestwich Street – permit holders only – 1pm-1am

De Smit Street:

– Intersection De Smit and Somerset Road – full closure in both directions – 1pm-1am

Moreland Terrace:

– Napier Street to Somerset Road – full closure – 1pm-1am

Napier Street:

– Jarvis Street to Somerset Road – full closure in both directions – 1pm-1am

– Prestwich Street to Hospital Street – full closure – 1pm-1am

Alfred Street:

– Schiebe Street to Somerset Road – full closure – 1pm-1am
