With all the incredible attractions we have to offer, it’s surprising to find out that the most-visited place in the whole country is the CBD. Yes you, read that correctly. Our CBD attracted more tourists, both local and international, than any other place in South Africa.

This is according to the the 2015 Annual Tourism Report, released by South African Tourism. Last year, the CBD received 883 000 visitors, officially replacing the V&A Waterfront as the most-visited attraction in SA. While it may seem strange at first, when you think about how many incredible things you can do here, it makes a lot of sense.

From casual takeaways at the Eastern Food Bazaar to the fine dining of Savoy Cabbage, you will find an amazing eatery that suits your needs – no matter what you’re in the mood for. The wonderful markets, shops and boutiques are every shopaholic’s dream. Our streets are filled with galleries, museums and art – that we get to enjoy even more during the ever popular First Thursdays. And when the sun goes down, there are plenty of pubs, clubs and parties to keep the night owls entertained.

You can have an incredible adventure, all within a few blocks, thank to the diverse, creative and quirky nature of our CBD. The best part is that you can still admire the glorious natural beauty of the Mountain, even when you are in the heart of the city.  That’s not to say our other attractions aren’t popular. In fact, the top seven most-visited attractions on the 2015 Annual Tourism Report are all in the Cape. Here are the top 10 places visited in 2015:

  1. Cape Town Central City (883 000 visitors)
  2. V&A Waterfront (840 000 visitors)
  3. Table Mountain Cableway (722 000 visitors)
  4. Cape Point (664 000 visitors)
