The iconic Cape Town Cycle Tour, scheduled to take place from 22 February to 2 March 2025, is set to feature an exciting new twist: the inaugural Prelude Challenge, Cape {town} Etc reports.

This addition aims to make the event more accessible to a wider audience, allowing cyclists from around the world to take part in the festivities in a flexible way.
The Prelude Challenge is designed for those who may face scheduling conflicts or other constraints on the official race day, 9 March 2025.
Whether due to travel, work commitments or religious observances, this new format allows cyclists to participate in the event on their own terms.
By introducing the Prelude Challenge, organisers hope to expand participation and, in turn, boost the charitable contributions made through race entries.
The challenge is a great way to include more riders who want to support the Cape Town Cycle Tour’s charitable causes.
Participants can sign up through the Cycle Tour’s entry portal. Once registered, cyclists will need to complete a 109km ride within 7 hours, on either a stationary bike or out on the road, wherever they are located in the world.
This can be done virtually or outdoors. Once the ride is completed, participants will upload their activity to Strava, where their efforts will be officially tracked and recognised as part of the 2025 Cape Town Cycle Tour results.
Everyone who completes the Prelude Challenge will receive a commemorative medal, and their ride will be included in the official race results.
Cyclists based in Cape Town can collect their race packs, including their goodie bags, race numbers, and medals, at the Cape Town Cycle Tour Expo. For those participating from outside the city, medals will be mailed to them.
The cost to enter the Prelude Challenge is R500. With this exciting new addition, the 2025 Cape Town Cycle Tour is opening its doors to a global cycling community, giving more people the chance to be part of one of the world’s most renowned cycling events.
