A cyclist was killed on Saturday morning in Cape Town after he crashed into a stationary car and was then hit by another vehicle travelling behind him on Muizenberg Main Road near St James Beach Road, Cape {town} Etc reports.
Reports suggest that the motorist allegedly failed to look before opening the car door, resulting in the cyclist crashing.
Western Cape police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said Muizenberg officers responded to a call and were met with paramedics attending to the cyclist.
‘Upon their arrival in Muizenberg Main Road in the vicinity of St James, they found paramedics aiding an injured man.’
‘It was later confirmed that the cyclist collided with a stationery vehicle.’
‘In the process, another vehicle travelling in the same direction also bumped the cyclist.’
‘The victim was later declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel.’
Swartbooi says that Muizenberg police have registered a culpable homicide for further investigation.
Community groups reported at around 8am that Muizenberg Main Road had to close between Atlantic Road in Muizenberg and Clairvoux Road, Kalk Bay.
Motorists had been advised to use Boyes Drive as an alternative route.
The road has since been reopened.
