The first incident on Friday night resulted in the death of two known male gang members aged 30 and 34.
Captain Frederick van Wyk said, “On Friday at about 10pm, Muizenberg police members attended a shooting in Neville Riley Road, Vrygrond”.
A 30-year-old taxi driver was then attacked and killed in Dury Road at about 6.30am on Saturday, just hours later.
“The deceased was located inside a minibus taxi and had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. The motive is possibly taxi-related conflict,” said van Wyk.
Just under 12 hours later, two more people were shot and killed in Apple road at 5pm on Saturday.
Following the discovery of two more deaths on Sunday, a large contingent of police officers was deployed to the area as part of the Muizenberg police’s 72-hour activation plan in an attempt to quell the violence and bring justice to the victims of the weekend shooting spree.
This activation plan resulted in the arrest of a 27-year-old suspect caught in possession of an unlicensed .357 revolver and ammunition on Sunday.
“three suspects aged 20, 23, and 29 are also being questioned in connection with the murders which were perpetrated over the weekend in an attempt to link them with the crimes,” added van Wyk.
