For the first time in its 27-year history, the Africa Energy Forum (AEF) will be taking place in Cape Town from 12-13 June 2025, positioning the country at the heart of Africa’s energy future.
According to Engineering News, the forum themed ‘Africa United’ will gather more than 25 energy ministers, 30-plus utility heads, and global investors to drive deals and shape policy ahead of South Africa’s G20 presidency.
AEF 2025: Powering Africa’s energy Transition
Set against Table Mountain, the forum is a vital platform for public-private partnerships, featuring the Africa Cup Football Tournament at DHL Stadium, blending sport and networking. Youth Energy Summit (YES), engaging 4 000 young professionals in Africa’s energy future.
President Cyril Ramaphosa will open the Africa Green Hydrogen Summit at the Century City Conference Centre, running simultaneously under the theme ‘Unlocking Africa’s Green Hydrogen Potential for Sustainable Growth.’
The summit will bring together ministers, investors, and tech leaders to advance Africa’s role in the global green hydrogen economy, focusing on investment opportunities, technology deployment, and Africa’s position in the global supply chain.

As Africa’s most industrialized economy, South Africa’s hosting of these events signals its leadership in renewable energy and green innovation. The AEF and Green Hydrogen Summit will boost foreign investment in SA’s energy sector, accelerate just energy transition plans, and position Cape Town as a continental hub for sustainable development.
