On Friday evening, 3 March 2023, a tragic house fire claimed the lives of a woman and a girl in Tafelsig, Cape Town.

According to Jermaine Carelse, spokesperson for Cape Town fire and rescue, firefighters and rescue crew responded to a call at around 11.30pm to find two houses engulfed in flames on Mont Blanc Street and over 13 individuals suffering from smoke inhalation.
Despite efforts by the crew to resuscitate a 23-year-old woman and a 13-year-old girl, they both passed away. A 23-year-old man and an 11-year-old girl were rescued from the flames and transported to the hospital in critical condition.
The blaze was extinguished in the early hours of Saturday morning.
