A Cape Town lawyer was caught red-handed with R9600 worth of drugs that was reportedly for a client he was representing.
The 39-year-old Khayelitsha resident was arrested at the Bellville Regional Court by a vigilant court orderly. The orderly apparently became suspicious after he noticed the lawyer with a green plastic bag – something which drew his attention.
The lawyer drew further attention to himself after he was excused from court proceedings by the presiding magistrate for suspected intoxication.
“As he left the court, the court orderly followed him and conducted a search which resulted in the discovery of 200 mandrax tablets and tik to the combined street value of R9600-00 found in the green plastic bag he was carrying with him,“ read a statement from the South African Police Service.
The disgraced lawyer has been charged and is expected to appear in the same court where he was arrested.
